Chair of mathematical analysis has been founded in the early 40-s when the University has been founded in Karelia.

The chair conducts training Bachelors in specialty 01.01.01 "Mathematics" and Masters in the specialty 010100" Mathematics "(master's training program" "Real Analysis "," Complex Analysis "," Functional Analysis ")

There's a post-graduate specialty 01.01.01 "Mathematical Analysis" (supervisor - Full Professor, Dr., Victor Starkov).

Recently the comprehensive analysis has been the main scientific interest of the department. The department regularly (every two years in the summer) organizes the International Conference on Complex Analysis and its applications.

Scientific seminar on the theory of complex variables works regularly..

Scientific Activity is carried out in fundamental mathematics within a number of fields:

• general topology;
• theory of operators and functional spaces;
• theory of functions and theory of numbers.

Scientific relations

       The personnel of the chair carrying out research in general topology have sciientific relations with scientists from MSU ans other universities including international ones. Doctor of Physica and Mathematics Professor A.V.Ivanov is the head of the group of topologists of the chair of mathematical analysis.
       The chair has scientific relations with scientists from Europe ans America, the personnel of the chair annualy participates in internationa;l conferences and schools.
       The results of the accomplished research are published in home and international editions, presented at the conferences in Russia and abroad.

Scientific research and education

       The scientific research of the chair is reverberated in education. The char trains specialists of two basic majors: mathematical analysis, and geometry and topology. The teachers introduce the scientific achievements of the world to the students. The level of students' training meets the modern requirements.
       The students participate in the scientific research of the chair, perform reports at the student conferences, work on probation as junior researchers of the chair.

Journal publishing

       The chair is in charge of publishing the annual journal "Works of PetrSU. Mathematics". It contains original works on mathematics written by both PetrSU' scientists, and mathematicians from other cities including international ones. The journal has gained popularity in Russia and abroad. It is successfullu exchanged with 7 foreign mathematical journals. The journal is abstracted in all known international mathematical journals (abstract journal Mathematics, Math. ReV., Zentval Blatt).
