Faculty of Mathematics

Faculty carries out multilevel training for the majors "Mathematics", "Applied mathematics and computer science" and "Business computer science". The 1 step: four years - with reception of the bachelor's degree in mathematics; 2 step: one year - with reception of the diploma of the expert (for "Mathematics" and "Applied mathematics and computer science") or two years - with reception of the diploma of a master. The faculty also offers training on the speciality of "Information systems and technologies" - 5 years with giving a qualification of an "engineer". Upon graduation this speciality also offers admission to magistracy on competitive examination on the speciality 230200 "information systems".

The major 010100 "Mathematics" offers the following specializations: geometry and topology; mathematical analysis, theory of numbers, theory of probabilities and mathematical statistics, information technologies in education.

Specializations of the major 010500 "Applied mathematics and computer science" are the following: software, mathematical modelling.

Preparation is accomplished in mathematics, applied mathematics and programming with orientation to pedagogical, research and industrial activity. Students receive knowledge on a wide spectrum of trends of modern mathematics: numerical methods, research of operations, methods of optimization, statistical modelling.

Students majoring in "Applied mathematics and computer science" in addition study computer and network architecture, methods of software development.

Upon completing the four-year training the student becomes the holder of bachelor’s degree, and under the personal application can continue training at the faculty to obtain the qualification of a certified expert (on specialities 010100 "Mathematics", qualification of a "Mathematician", and 010501 "Applied mathematics and computer science", qualification of a "Mathematician and systems programmer") or take part in the enrolment competition to study for two more years in the magistracy on the corresponding specialities.

Graduates with a gegree in "Mathematics" can work as teachers of mathematics and computer science at schools, technical schools and universities, scientific officers in research institutions and as programmers.

Graduates of the speciality "Applied mathematics and computer science" are experts in mathematical modelling and analysis of planning processes and management, they can work as programmers and system analysts.

Except for traditional courses of mathematics and computer science, "Information systems and technologies" curriculum includes system engineering, issues of program engineering, designing and administration of information systems, information security, etc. Graduates can develop and maintain hardware and software complexes, work as programmers, information system and network managers.

The faculty provides an optimum combination of deep mathematical preparation forming strong skills for solution of applied problems, with intensive theoretical and practical work in the field of modern mathematics and information technologies.
